Artist Statement
City landscapes andtoys are the main focus as subjects for my work. City landscape has been a subject since I graduated from CAFA. The city is expanding rapidly as a monster. There are new buildings being built everyday. Tower-cranes, sand-piles, steel-bars and concrete are forming another kind of landscape in the city. It affects my emotion all the time. ?But when Im painting, I transform the restless emotion. There is no loud noise or messy construction sites in my painting - instead, they are replaced by peacefulness. The light colour of my palette enables my exhausted nerves to rest for awhile, and gives me more time to explore inside my heart. My emotion is being adjusted during the process of painting. In contrast, there is more sadness embodied in the Toys Series. I am using my hands to build a temporary rescue shelter for the toys. At the same time, I am trying to build an ideal home to protect myself.
I am emotional, depressed, impatient, and most often I feel helpless. But actually my life is very mundane: working, painting, and playing. Perhaps my sensitivity enhanced the feeling of helplessness. I explain my life and desire in my painting. I pay attention to the people, the fragile toys and children, and various kinds of objects. I tell people my feelings through painting. Painting is my spokesperson. It is very meaningful to me.
